English: Literature Across The Curriculum

In one of our workshops on literature today, we were challenged with the task of telling a story. Such a simple idea, yet one which has caused concern among various members of the course, as talking in front of your peers is quite different from talking in front of a class. Despite initial reservations, it turned into a wonderful activity and the hour long session seemed to be over all too quick, especially as we were able to work in groups of 6 and thus tell our stories to a small group, rather than the entire session.

In the group I was a part of, the stories including Three Little Pigs, Billy Goats Gruff, Nanny Goat and the 7 Kids, a Roman legend, The Little Matchgirl and Red Riding Hood. It was fantastic, as we all seemed to be pulled into the stories and when recalling our own, we were able to let go of the nerves and simply enjoy the splender of being the storyteller. Some of the stories were not known by members of the group, and mine seemed to spark some sadness due to the ending of The Little Matchgirl. In a way, I think that is a great thing - one member of the group, in particular, leaned in as the story neared its conclusion and then looked geniunely upset; being able to pull someone in that way is a bit of a confidence boost, I must say. :D
